VISIT TO THE FACTORY

I (Elizabeth) have just returned from a 5 day visit to Krug’s factory in Cherkasy, Ukraine. It was great to meet Dmitriy and the team and to take a look at their factories and some of the builds that are underway at the moment. It is very clear that they pay attention to the details and deliver a quality product. They use only the best fittings and materials and it shows. Most of the build is done in-house such as manufacturing the panels, building frames, roof racks and stairs in the metalworks, fabricating the windows, all the woodwork and electrical fit out, painting and so on.

It was fantastic to take a look at the builds that are currently in production. There was one build that is quite similar to our layout, which really helped to get an idea of the space we should have in ours and to help lock down some details. They also had the same chassis, let me just say it is a huge truck! Sitting in the drivers cabin you are up very high and I am sure it will take some time to get used to the size of the beast.

During my time there we finalised some of the design details using a combination of Charades, Pictionary and Google Translate if Dmitriy was not there to translate! I am sure the team thought I was somewhat crazy but we had some laughs and got the job done! Finally I signed off the plans and the build can now commence!!

I introduced the team to some iconic Aussie treats such as Tim Tams, Violet Crumble, Cherry Ripe and Wagon Wheels, which of course everyone loved! I have promised to bring some Tim Tams with me when we return later in the year.

The Soviet influence is still apparent in the buildings and uniforms. I was there for Victory Day and watched the parade down to the Motherland Monument where thousands of flowers were laid at the memorial. It was interesting to watch and see the locals pay their respects and see a large number of them dressed in their traditional shirts.

The food was also great! Loved the varenyky and kharcho. Can’t wait to come back!
